We want to inform our customers that we are currently experiencing discolored water in parts of our system that are served by the City of Beggs purchase supplier may appear cloudy or resemble a light tea color. This discoloration is caused by naturally occurring iron and manganese that entered our system through our wholesale water supplier. These minerals are not a health concern and the water remains safe to drink and use. However, they can temporarily affect the appearance of the water and may cause staining of laundry or fixtures.
Our limited crews have been flushing dead ends and rotating zones daily to mitigate the issue in order to remove the discolored water and restore normal clarity, but the source of the discoloration appears to be originating from the supplied water.
During this time, customers may wish to avoid washing white or light colored clothing and may notice some sediment in faucet aerators. If discoloration is observed, allowing cold water to run through an outdoor spigot or bathtub without a screen briefly may help clear household plumbing.
This situation is unrelated to the optic fiber project currently happening in our other distribution area of Preston. Customers in this zone may experience air or discoloration in the water from the water main breaks that should clear up easily using the same techniques in flushing your household lines from exterior faucets and those without aerators or screens.
We are working directly with our water supplier to correct the source of the issue and will continue to provide updates as conditions improve. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we address this matter. If you have questions or concerns, please contact our office at 918.756.8910
